Togrul first competed in judo in 2003, but one year later his coach directed him to wrestling. Once Togrul got acquainted with wrestling he fell in love with the sport, and only a few months later he was a national champion. It was just the beginning. The greatest of his successes was in 2012 at the London Olympics Games. Togrul won the gold medal in men's 60kg freestyle, beating Besik KUDUKHOV of Russia. Togrul aims to become Azerbaijan's first double Olympic gold medallist.
