Finishing 6th in the 200m backstroke at the 2013 European Youth Olympic Festival in Utrecht.
He started swimming at the age of three and began competing at the age of eight. Since then he has been a regular winner of national competitions and has held several national records.
In the last Open National Championships of winter, he had several podiums. Despite being forced to stop training due to illness, he still had several podium finishes at the most recent national championships.
His long term aim is to compete at the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo, which he says would be a very emotionally occasion for him because his maternal grandfather Felga Ribeiro competed in swimming at the Olympic Games in Rome in 1960 and Tokyo in 1964.
