Ireland's Katie Taylor won the women's Boxing lightweight (57-60kg) gold medal on Saturday, beating France's Estelle Mossely by unanimous decision.

Two of judges scored the bout 40-36 with the third giving Taylor the victory by 39-37.

"Thank God for another great victory," Taylor said. "I felt a bit tired after yesterday's bout but I managed to pull through. I had to be very clever in there – she's a very tricky opponent. I think I won every round.

"I'm just delighted with the tactics, I think they were spot on as per usual from my dad (coach, Peter Taylor). I'm so lucky to have some of the best coaches in the world in my corner – the tactics for every single fight were spot on. That's the difference, a lot of the time, between winning and losing."

Taylor, the most successful female boxer of all time, can now add a European Games gold medal to her impressive collection of 17 major titles, which comprises golds from the London 2012 Olympic Games, five consecutive world championships, six consecutive European championships and five European Union championships.

"I'm going to take a couple of weeks off now and prepare for the world championships," she said. "My main goal is to defend that Olympic title. I want to go down in the history books as the greatest female boxer of all time."

Defeated semi-finalists Yana Alekseevnaof Azerbaijan and Germany's Tasheena Bugar took the bronze medals.
