Cyprus won their first medal of the Baku 2015 European Games, but had to settle for silver after hotshots Valerio Luchini and Diana Bacosi fired Italy to gold in the mixed team skeet on the final day of Shooting on Monday.

Luchini, who also won gold in the men's skeet at Baku 2015, hit a perfect 16 in the final, while women's skeet silver medallist and world no.1 Bacosi bagged 14 targets, as the Italians defeated Georgios Achilleos and Andri Eleftheriou by one hit.

World no.1 Anthony Terras combined with Lucie Anastassiou to win the bronze medal match for France against Slovakian pair Stefan Zemko and Danka Bartekova in the new event.

"This team event has been a very nice experiment, it's been real fun" said Bacosi. "It's also been very exciting because I've never participated in this kind of competition and it's good to feel part of a team."

Luchini echoed his partner's view, saying: "It's a fantastic event. Very enthralling, very emotional until the end. It's unfortunate this team event is not at the Olympics. It should be, because it's very interesting."
