Rachel Klamer of the Netherlands takes silver and Sweden's Lisa Norden claims bronze

Switzerland's Olympic champion Nicola Spirig won the women's Triathlon gold medal at the Baku 2015 European Games  on Saturday (13 June).

Her victory meant that Switzerland had won the first two gold medals of the inaugural European Games, after Jolanda Neff took the women's Mountain Bike title earlier.

By crossing the line first, in two hours and 28 seconds at Bilgah Beach, Spirig also won a place at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games, where she will defend the title she won at London 2012.

Rachel Klamer of the Netherlands took silver in 2:01:44, and Sweden's Lisa Norden, the London 2012 Olympic silver medallist, claimed the bronze in 2:01:46.

"It feels amazing to win the first European Games and to have won a qualifying spot for the Olympics in Rio makes this a perfect day for me," said Spirig.
