Baku 2015 European Games hosts performer auditions for Opening and Closing Ceremonies

Baku 2015 European Games is hosting auditions for Ceremonies Performers who will take part in the Opening and Closing Ceremonies.

Mr Dimitris Papaioannou, Artistic Director of the Opening Ceremony, was part of the team at the Baku 2015 Athletes Village that put volunteers through a dance routine.

The Baku 2015 Opening Ceremony will be a celebration of traditional Azerbaijani culture that will reflect the host city’s role in modern Europe, as well as honouring all the athletes that will be competing.

The Baku 2015 Ceremonies team will recruit performers who have passion, energy and a desire to represent their country in the newly-built National Stadium on Friday 12 June.

Ms Catherine Ugwu, Baku 2015 Director of Ceremonies, said: “The 6,000 volunteer performers will enjoy a once-in-a-lifetime experience when they appear in the largest live show that Azerbaijan has ever produced.

“The Baku 2015 Opening Ceremony will showcase the best of Azerbaijani art, culture and achievement as well as welcoming the athletes to Baku. It was wonderful to see so many enthusiastic people turn out and I am sure we will welcome many more to the auditions.”

Mr Papaioannou is highly regarded for his spectacular work as artistic director of the Athens 2004 Olympic Games ceremonies, and said: “We are very excited to have started auditioning performers and we are looking forward to seeing many more people in the coming weeks.”
